Ann Fitz-Gerald

Ann Fitz-Gerald is a senior academic in Cranfield University’s Department of Defence Management and Security Analysis, the Head of Cranfield’s Centre for Managing Security in Transitional Societies and the current Director of the Global Facilitation Network for Security Sector Reform (GFN-SSR). She holds degrees in Commerce, International Relations, War Studies and Defence Management. Her PhD examined the impact national disparities with multinational military forces could have on sustainable development programmes running simultaneously with peace support operations in post-conflict states. Following an initial career in the financial services, she pursued academic interests in international peace and security issues and held posts at both the Lester B Pearson International Peacekeeping Training Centre and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Brussels. Ann has worked in the area of international security and post-conflict reform for 14 years and is widely published in this field. Her most recent book is an edited volume entitled From Conflict to Community: A Combatant’s Return to Citizenship. Ann has carried out extensive fieldwork in both research and practitioner capacities and has project managed a number of other UK Government projects including projects entitled Securing Humanitarian Space, the Development of Performance-based metrics for evaluating humanitarian and development projects, Addressing Failed and Collapsed States. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the IRPP and maintains a close relationship with a number of Canadian Universities and Government Departments.
