Africa and Middle East IDEP conducts training courses of various duration on management of African development and planning activities and undertakes research and consultancy services for benefit of member States. IDEP is part of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established by Economic and Social Council as the successor to the United Nations Economic and Social Office in Beirut (UNESOB). In 1985 the Commission was redesignated the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in order to acknowledge more fully the social aspect of the Commission's activities. The majority of activities under the regular program of work are regional in dimension. The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is the regional arm of the United Nations, mandated to support the economic and social development of its 53 member states, foster regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa's development. Established in 1958 and based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, ECA is one of five regional economic commissions under the administrative direction of the UN Headquarters. The Institut Africain pour le Développement Economique et Social (INADES) was founded in 1962 following a request from the Conférence Episcopale Régionale de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (CEREAO). INADES is an NGO that undertakes research in the area of social action and plans activities of formation, information and development to serve the African populations. The Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) was founded with the purpose of assisting Israel's democratic institutions and values. It was established in 1991 as a policy research center, on the seam of politics and academia, of the world of Israeli decision-makers and that of thinkers. The Institute stringently maintains its neutral and nonpartisan status. |
