  • Adam Smith Institute (UK)
    The Adam Smith Institute (ASI) was founded in 1977. It played an influential role in the development of privatization, independent utility regulation, public service improvement and other policy reforms in the UK through the 1980s. The Institute is a firm advocate of incentive, choice opportunity and moving decision-making from authority to individuals.

  • Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies (Netherlands)
    The Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies (AIAS) was set up in 1998 as an interdisciplinary research and educational institute that brings together staff from a variety of disciplines. The central element of the AIAS's work is the contribution and significance of the 'labour' production factor in the national and international society of today (labour studies).

  • Berne Declaration (Switzerland)
    The Berne Declaration is a Swiss non-governmental organization with 16,000 members. Through research, public eduaction and advocacy work, it has promoted more equitable, sustainable and democratic North-South relations since 1968. Most of the Berne Declaration publications are in German and French.

  • Center for Policy Studies in Russia (Russia)
    The Center for Policy Studies in Russia (PIR Center) is a non-profit, independent, Moscow-based research and public education organization, which was founded in July 1994. PIR conducts research on a wide range of issues related to Russian foreign and domestic policy. The Center is currently focused on international security arms control, and non-proliferation issues that are directly related to Russia's internal situation.

  • Center for Research in Economics and Statistics (France)
    The general objective of CREST is to play an active role in the international development of research in two main fields: economic and social modelling and the conseption and implementation of statistical methods.

  • Center for the Study of Democracy (Bulgaria)
    Founded in late 1989, the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) is an interdisciplinary public policy institute dedicated to the values of democracy and market economy. CSD is a non-partisan, independent organization fostering the reform process in Bulgaria through impact on policy and civil society. CSD objectives are: (1) to provide an enhanced institutional capacity for a successful EU integration process; (2) to promote institutional reform and implementation of democratic values; (3) to monitor public attitudes on the institutional reform process in the country; (4) to strengthen the institutional capacity of NGOs in Bulgaria and reform the legal framework for their operation.

  • Centre for Economic Policy Research (UK)
    The Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) provides common services for its researchers and for the users of its research, and it obtains funding for the activities it develops. CEPR's research is not conducted in-house. Instead, it acts as the hub of a European economics research network comprising over 500 researchers. CEPR's research is carried out under the auspices of seven program areas: financial economics, industrial organization, international macroeconomics, international trade, labour economics, public policy, and transition economics.

  • Centre d'Etudes Prospectives et d'Informations Internationales (France)
    The Centre d'études prospectives et d'informations internationales (CEPII) is France's main centre for the study of international economics. Created in 1978 by Prime Minister Raymond Barre, this public organisation is linked to the French Planning Agency. The Centre's research programme is set by its Board, which is composed of leading government officials, business personalities, trade unionists and academics. Since 1995, the Board has been chaired by Francis Mer, Chairman and Managing Director of Usinor.

  • Centre for European Initiatives and Research in the Mediterranean / Centre d'Iniciatives i Recerques Europees a la Mediterrània (Spain)
    The Centre for European Initiatives and Research in the Mediterranean (CIREM Foundation) is a private non-profit foundation devoted to applied research and consulting in the field of social sciences. Since it was founded in 1989, it has been defined as an independent centre and is financed through the projects it carries out. The CIREM Foundation has a marked Mediterranean focus and aims to promote a greater knowledge of these societies within Europe as a whole.

  • Centre for European Policy Studies (Belgium)
    The Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) is an independent institute founded in 1983 to: (1) provide decision-makers and inside and outside government, with authoritative and independent analysis of European affairs; (2) provide a forum for discussion to stake-holders in the European policy process; (3) create a network of leaders committed to the development of European integration and cooperation.

  • Centre for Policy Studies (UK)
    The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) is an independent centre right think tank which develops and publishes public policy proposals and arranges seminars and lectures on topical policy issues, as part of its mission to influence policy around the world. It also maintains a range of informal contacts with politicians, policymakers, civil servants and the press, in Britain and abroad.

  • Centre for Studies in Health, Economics and Social Policy / Centre d'Estudis en Economía de la Salut i de la Política Social (Spain)
    The Centre for Studies in Health, Economics and Social Policy (SOIKOS) was established formally as a research centre in 1988 in order to group together researchers active in the fields of health economics and social policy. SOIKOS provides analytical services to the public sector, to industry, to private insurers and to clinical research programs. Its research aims to provide solutions or approximations to the questions, which arise as health systems undergo complex change.

  • Center for the Study of Public Policy (UK)
    The Center for the Study of Public Policy (CSPP) of the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow) looks at mass behaviour in post-Communist societies, including Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, the Baltic States, and Korea.

  • Danish National Institute of Social Research / Socialforskningsinstituttet (Denmark)
    The Danish National Institute of Social Research (SFI) is an independent governmental research institution affiliated to the Ministry of Social Affairs. It was founded in 1958 and is operating under the Danish Sector Research Institution Act. The Institute is interdisciplinary, bringing together researchers from economics, sociology, political science and other social science disciplines. The aim of the research undertaken by the Institute is to provide a better understanding of social, economic and working conditions in the Danish society.

  • Demos (UK)
    Demos is an independent think-tank and research institute based in London. Launched in 1993, its role is to help reinvigorate public policy and political thinking and to develop radical solutions to long term problems. Most of its research is conducted in the fields of education, civic culture and social exclusion.

  • Economic and Social Research Institute (Ireland)
    The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) is a not-for-profit organization, which was founded in 1960 as the Economic Research Institute. In 1966, following a report by a United Nations special advisor, the Institute assumed responsibility for social research and extended its title to the Economic and Social Research Institute. The fundamental aim of ESRI is to bring the latest thinking in economics and the social sciences to bear on the actual and potential problems of Irish society.

  • European Institute of Public Administration (Netherlands)
    The European Institute of Public Administration is an organization with a European vocation, playing a prominent role in providing information, training, research and consultancy within the field of European affairs. In addition, the Institute is a living entity which contributes to the cultural updating of the European environment by constantly adapting itself and evolving in line with European developments, and communicating these developments to its interlocutors, which are essentially public officials from the EU Member States and the applicant countries to the EU.

  • European Policy Centre (Brussels, Belgium)
    Founded in 1997, the European Policy Centre (EPC) plays an active role by bringing together government, business, professional, regional authorities and civil society organizations to debate and influence the major policy challenges, from security policy to enlargement issues, facing the European Union and its member states.

  • European University Institute (Italy)
    The European University Institute was founded in 1972 by the European Community Member States to provide advanced academic and cultural training on a European basis. It does research in a European perspective (fundamental research, comparative research and Community research) in the human and social sciences: history, law, economics, political and social sciences.

  • German Council on Foreign Relations / Forschungsinstitut der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Auswartige Politik (Germany)
    The main goals of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) are: (1) to stimulate interest in international questions; (2) to promote scholarly cooperation worldwide; and (3) to increase understanding between nations. The DGAP was founded in 1955 as an independent, non-partisan, non-profit association.

  • German Institute for Economic Research / Deutsches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (Germany)
    The German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) in Berlin was originally founded in 1925 as the "Institute for Business Cycle Research". As an independent non-profit organization, the DIW is exclusively committed to academic pursuits in the public interest and its main task is to investigate economic processes in Germany and to support decision-making in politics, economy, and administration.

  • Hamburg Institute for Economic Research / Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung - Hamburg (Germany)
    Founded as an independent institute in 1908, the Hamburg Institute for Economic Research (HWWA) is assigned to the Authority for Science and Research of the City of Hamburg. The work of the HWWA offers support for decision-making in the business community and at the governmental level. The bulk of research activities are concerned with international economic problems and with the analysis of economic development in Germany and the world economy.

  • Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (Greece)
    The Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) is an independent, policy-oriented non-profit organization. It was founded in 1988 as a forum for the study and understanding of issues relating to foreign and security policy, European affairs and international relations. ELIAMEP functions as a forum of debate on international issues, as an information centre, as well as a point of contact for experts and policy makers.

  • Institute for Advanced Studies/ Institut für Hörere Studien (Austria)
    The Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) was established as a private non-profit society. IHS is a postgraduate research and education institution, which trains young scientists and managers in the fields of economics and social sciences. It was set up in 1963 on the initiative of Paul F. Lazarsfeld and Oskar Morgenstern with the help of the Ford Foundation, the Austrian Ministry of Education and the Council of Vienna.

  • Institute for Management Development (Switzerland)
    The IMD Learning Network was established over 25 years ago to stimulate exchange and dialogue. Today it represents a diverse international group of companies, each dedicated to excellence in management development. Over the last few years this Network has evolved into one of the world's most powerful learning and management networking groups, based on collaboration between international business and education. One of the major objectives of the Learning Network is to stimulate dialogue between members and with IMD faculty on a range of topical management issues.

  • Institute for Public Affairs / Institút pre Verejné Otázky (Slovakia)
    The Institute for Public Affairs (IVO) is an independent public policy research institute founded in February 1997 and located in Bratislava. The Institute's mission is: (1) to analyze social, political, economic, and other issues of public interest; (2) to conduct research on public policies and their consequences; (3) to disseminate widely its findings and to make practical recommendations for improved government policy; and (4) to help to promote Slovakia's transition to a free, democratic, and open society.

  • Institute for Public Policy Research (UK)
    The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) is Britain's leading centre-left think tank. Its aim is to promote and contribute to a greater understanding of key social, economic, and political questions.

  • Institute of Economic Affairs (UK)
    The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is an educational charity and independent research institute. Established in 1955, the IEA is entirely independent of any political party or group. Its mission is to improve public understanding of the fundamental institutions of a free society, with particular reference to the role of markets in solving economic and social problems.

  • International Peace Research Institute / Institutt for fredsforskning (Norway)
    Founded in 1959, International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) was one of the first centres of peace research in the world. The foundation of the institute and its early influence were instrumental in promulgating the idea of peace research. PRIO is an independent, international institute in staff, audience and perspective.

  • National Institute of Economic and Social Research (UK)
    The National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) is Britain's longest established independent economic research institute with over sixty years experience. The NIESR is independent of all party political interests and does not benefit from any core funding from government. The institute's current programs include work on productivity, education methods, trade and investment, European financial integration, labour markets and economic statistics.

  • Nexus (UK)
    Nexus is a network for all those interested in contributing to debate on the priorities and policies of the current government. It has been set up to be formally independent of any particular political party. Nexus has a two-fold purpose: (1) to develop and extend centre-left thought and (2) to increase the profile and quality of public debate.

  • Policy Studies Institute (UK)
    Policy Studies Institute (PSI) is one of Britain's leading research institutes, conducting research that will promote economic well being and improve quality of life. PSI provides data and analysis in support of policy-making, promotes the discussion and exchange of relevant information and research findings through its publications program, and organizes workshops and other events. PSI is a registered educational charity, independent of all political parties, pressure groups and commercial interest. Since 1998 it has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Westminster.

  • Politeia (UK)
    Politeia opened in November 1995 as a focus for thinking on social and economic policy. Its aim is to encourage reflection, discussion and debate about the place of the state in the daily lives of men and women across the range of issues that affect them, from employment and tax to education, health and state pensions.

  • Research Institute of the Finnish Economy / Elinkeino Elämän Tutkimuslaitos (Finland)
    The Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA) is a research community of more than 50 persons with expertise accumulated in diverse fields. Created in 1946, ETLA seeks to continuously develop means to address challenging questions related to current economic, business and social policy issues in Finland and other European countries.

  • Social Market Foundation (UK)
    The Social Market Foundation (SMF) was launched in March 1989 to provide a new source of innovative economic and social policy ideas. Steering an independent course between conflicting ideologies of conservatism and social democracy, the SMF pioneered work in the market-based reform of state healthcare, education and welfare provision.

  • Social Research Informatics Center / Tarsadalomkutatasi Es Informatikai Egyesules (Hungary)
    The Social Research Informatics Center (TÁRKI) was founded in 1985 as the first legally private research centre of Central Europe. The aim of the founder of TARKI was to create a service-providing centre which would: (1) help develop Hungarian empirical sociological research; (2) engage in research consultancy; (3) function as a data bank that collects the data from Hungarian and foreign surveys; and (4) simplify and rationalize new surveys.

  • Swedish Institute for Social Research / Institutet för social forskning (Sweden)
    The Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI) was founded in 1972 through reorganization of the Institute for Labour Market Research and was incorporated into Stockholm University in 1981. The Institute's research is focused upon questions related to social policy and labour market policy. Research at SOFI is organized within three research divisions: (1) labour economics, (2) level of living and (3) social policy.

  • Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies/ Wiener Institut für Internationale Wirtschaftvergleiche (Austria)
    The Wiener Institut für Internationale Wirtschaftvergleiche (WIIW) is a non-profit organization partly financed by the Republic of Austria. WIIW provides economic projections of Central and Eastern Europe countries for many of the world's leading banks and financial institutions, governments, insurance companies and multinational corporations.
