The Atlantic Institute for Market Studies, or AIMS, is now nearly five years old. Many of AIMS' published documents contain specific and positive prescriptions for what ails the Atlantic economy. The C.D. Howe Institute is an independent, nonprofit economic and social policy research institution. Governments, the media, and Canadians in every region look to the Institute to provide analysis of issues of national interest. The Caledon Institute is a social policy think tank. Established in 1992, the Caledon Institute of Social Policy is a private, non-profit organization with charitable status. It is supported primarily by the Maytree Foundation, located in Toronto. Caledon is an independent and critical voice that does not depend on government funding and is not affiliated with any political party. The Canada West Foundation is directed to accomplish three primary objectives: (1) To conduct research into the economic and social characteristics of the West and North, within a national and international context; (2) To educate individuals regarding the West's regional economic and social contributions to the Canadian Federation; and (3) To act as a catalyst for informed debate. The CCPA is an independent, non-profit research organization, funded primarily through organizational and individual membership. It was founded in 1980 to promote research on economic and social policy issues from a progressive point of view. The Canadian Council on Social Development (CCSD) promotes better social and economic security for all Canadians. A national, self-supporting, non-profit organization, the CCSD's main product is information and its main activity is research, focussing on concerns such as income security, employment, poverty, child welfare, pensions and government social policies. The Canadian Foundation for the Americas (FOCAL) is an independent, non-governmental organization dedicated to deepening and strengthening Canada's relations with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean through policy discussion and analysis. FOCAL's mission is to develop a greater understanding of important hemispheric issues and to help build a stronger community of the Americas. FOCAL publications include policy papers, conference reports and commissioned research. Papers are available for download in PDF format. CPRN's mission is to create knowledge and lead public debate on social and economic issues important to the well-being of Canadians. Its goal is to help make Canada a more just, prosperous and caring society. CPRN is currently operating four Networks - on Family, Work, Health and Public Involvement, as well as special corporate projects on the Non-profit Sector, the Social Union and Policy Research. The Canadian Institute for Research on Regional Development (CIRRD), located on the campus of the Université de Moncton, was established in 1983. The institute's primary purpose is to serve as a centre for the study of regional development. Through its programs, it seeks to encourage continuing research into questions relating to regional development. The Faculty of Public Affairs and Management is Carleton University's response to the changes that are taking place all around us. The Faculty brings together 12 academic departments, schools, institutes, and more than a dozen organized research units dedicated to the study of the institutions and organizations that make up civic society, how they are managed, how they make decisions, and their relationships with one another. Based at Laval University, the Centre for the Analysis of Public Policy conducts research on government intervention as well as public policy analysis. The Centre for Research and Information on Canada (CRIC), established in 1996, manages the Council for Canadian Unity (CCU) research and communications activities. It keeps volunteers abreast of Canadians' thinking by constantly tracking and analyzing public opinion about the federation. The Churchill Society is a non-partisan, registered charity that honours the life and works of Sir Winston Churchill by developing awareness about Canada's parliamentary democracy and the need to revivify it from one generation to another. The Society hosts debates, lectures and honours people who have made outstanding contributions to parliamentary democracy in Canada. The Conference Board helps its members to anticipate and respond to the increasingly changing global economy. It does so through the development and exchange of knowledge about organizational strategies and practices, emerging economic and social trends and key public policy issues. The Conference Board shapes debates through impartial analysis of key public policy issues. The mission of the School of Public Administration is to be a leading regional, national and international centre for teaching, research and community outreach in public policy and management in the public sector. The Fraser Institute was founded in 1974 to redirect public attention to the role markets can play in providing for the economic and social well-being of Canadians. IPAC is a national bilingual English/French non-profit organization, concerned with the theory and practice of public management, with 17 regional groups across Canada. It provides networks and forums regionally, nationally and internationally. The Institute offers interdisciplinary and experimental courses in Canadian studies. It welcomes visiting Canadian and international scholars and makes available to them the rich resources in the Montreal region for the study and understanding of Canada. The Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan research and educational institute. It endeavours to promote an economic approach to the study of public policy issues. The MEI studies how markets function with the aim of identifying the mechanisms and institutions that foster the prosperity and long-term welfare of all the individuals that make up our society. The MEI is the product of a collaborative effort between Montreal-area entrepreneurs, academics and economists. [summary not available] The Parliamentary Centre is an independent, not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, whose mission is to strengthen legislatures in Canada and around the world. It specializes in assisting legislatures through assessment missions, capacity development and confidence building programs, research and publications as well as exposure to the experience of the Canadian Parliament. The Public Policy Forum is a non-partisan, non-profit organization aimed at improving the quality of government in Canada through better dialogue between the public, private and third sectors. The Forum's members, drawn from businesses, governments, the voluntary sector and the labor movement, share a common belief that an efficient and effective public service is a key element in ensuring our quality of life and global competitive position. The School of Policy Studies at Queen's University is dedicated to the advancement of education and research in public policy and management. The faculty and fellows associated with the School have expertise that collectively spans an extensive number of disciplines and policy issues. Their strength also lies with their experience working with both academia and the public sector. SIPP strives to engage government, business, academia and the non-profit sector to support the exchange of ideas and the development of creative and innovative solutions to the policy challenges of today. It seeks to do this through its key activities: research, education and citizen engagement. The Public Policy Program at Simon Fraser University, created in the Fall of 2003, consists of the Master's in Public Policy (MPP) graduate program and the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR).
